The Rays played the Athletics Wednesday night at Golden Eagle Park in their home opener of the 2019 season. The Rays struck quickly in the top of the first inning scoring five runs to take an early lead and added three more runs in the second inning giving them the lead which held up for several innings. The Athelics fought their way back and took the lead in the top of the fifth innning with a towering two run home run by Eli Johnson. The Rays responded with two runs of their own to grab the lead back in their next at bat. The sixth inning was filled with tension as the late innings seesaw battle continued with the Athletics reagaining the lead during their final at bat. In the bottom of the sixth, Cody Barzcak started the Rays comeback by reaching first base after a dropped third strike and Nate Melloy followed with a walk. When Nathan Barzcak came up to bat with the winning run on third base, it only took a few pitches before he delivered a game-ending walk-off hit sending the Rays to victory!
